Mission and vision
The Speech Pathology Applied Behavior Analysis (SPABA) Special Interest Group (SIG) is an affiliate special interest group of the Association for Behavior Analysis International® (ABAI).
In November 2023, SPABA registered as a charitable nonprofit and received 501(c)3 status.
SPABA’s mission is to promote:
SPABA's vision is to support meaningful improvements in the lives of individuals and their families within the shared domains of speech-language pathology and applied behavior analysis through interprofessional collaboration.
This collaboration between speech-language pathologists and behavior analysts has strong benefits for consumers of our services to treat speech, language, and feeding disorders. In addition, it enhances communication between our related professions through conference presentations, collaborative research, workshops, publication of treatment protocols and materials, and many other activities.

- Development and dissemination of empirically-sound research and interprofessional practice-based intervention within the shared domains of speech-language pathology and applied behavior analysis.
- Application of evidence-based practices relevant to the full range of services provided by speech-language pathologists and applied behavior analysts.
- Narrowing the research-practice gap through education, training, and mentorship.
